Youth Group

The Crater Club offers an incredible day camp hosted on club property available from July through early August, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until noon. A certified lifeguard supervises waterfront activities and swimming from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Children (ages 5-12) of members and their guests are welcome to join us. We organize games on the fields, do arts and crafts projects, play board games, and plan nature activities on and around our club grounds. A mountain hike/field trip is scheduled each Wednesday and an Evening activity on Thursdays, rain or shine, from 6:30 to 8pm. Evening programs are open to all campers and their family members (parents too!) and include such activities as Family Soccer or Whiffle Ball, or Bingo and Card Night. A weekly schedule of activities is posted inside the Youth Group room and on the Youth Group WhatsApp group.

A daily fee (see Crater Club Dues and Charges in the Club Directory) is billed for each camper participating in the morning program.

Waterfront & Boating

The Crater Club enjoys a 1/8 mile of lakeside access including a separate swimming dock and boating dock for its members along the shores of Lake Champlain near Whallon's Bay and Split Rock Point. Our affiliation with the Split Rock Yacht Club offers members crewing and sailing opportunities each summer Saturday. Youth sailing lessons are available through the Crater Club Youth Group. Canoes and kayaks belonging to members often can be enjoyed by guests and visiting families. Outings to nearby beaches or natural settings find families enjoying the Lake's many hideaways.

Perched above the shore stands Burnham’s Landing, a picturesque gathering place for Monday night cookouts, SRYC race days and private events. Burnham’s has a kitchen and bathroom in additional to a dining area.

Tennis & Bocce

The Club maintains four clay tennis courts for members and their guests to enjoy. Daily mixed doubles reflect the casual, non-scheduled social nature of the Club to encourage new and old friends to mingle while awaiting turns and catching up with one another at the Tennis Hut. The courts are located next to the historic Clubhouse where onlookers are welcome to watch the action from the elevated porch area. Usually anyone can play without reservations. Women's doubles are also scheduled on Tuesdays, Men's on Thursdays, Mixed Round Robin on Fridays, and Scramble on Sundays.

There are also two regulation Bocce courts nearby. The Club hosts weekly Bocce get-togethers on Sunday evenings where members can grill and hang out while the games continue.

Social Events

The social calendar for every season at the Crater Club is always filled with incredible events. In addition to weekly BYOB gatherings at the Clubhouse on Saturdays and Monday Night Cookouts, there are outings to local art events and talks, karaoke nights, regular live music including a yearly event hosting the Meadowmount School of Music, live theatre outings to the Essex Theatre Company and Depot theatre in Westport, movie nights, potlucks, and more. The club enjoys a vibrant community of families many of whom have known each other for decades and take great pleasure in connecting each year whether it be down on the dock, sipping a drink at the Clubhouse, or spending time at one another's camp. The social life of the club is perhaps its greatest asset and why its remained a place people return to year after year for over 125 years.
